Abstract
This is a new review covering developments in 'atomic spectrometry'. It combines the content of the previously separate ASU reviews on 'atomic emission, absorption and fluorescence spectrometry'1 and 'atomic mass spectrometry',2 but excluding material on speciation and coupled techniques which is included in a separate new review. It should be read in conjunction with the other related reviews in the series.3-6 A critical approach to the selection of material has been adopted, with only novel developments in instrumentation, techniques and methodology being included. Developments in LIBS still show up strongly, and there is an increasing move away from TIMS and toward the use of multicollector ICP-MS for isotope ratio measurements in geochronology and isotope fractionation studies. New developments across other areas are patchy. © The Royal Society of Chemistry.
